Still tinkering on things |
|
Tuesday,
July 28, 2009 |
Well, I haven't spent a lot of time on this site recently. I've been playing in the good weather and
working on a site for my sister's horse rescue. Check it out at:
Hoot Hollow
I did pick up a
Palm Tungsten and will be using that to update the Palm side of the site. It has been neglected for
sometime now. Keep checking back; I am still updating things.

Some Good News...Some Bad News |
|
Sunday,
March 15, 2009 |
So for the few of you out there that still visit, sorry for the troubles lately. The server that I had
abused by yanking the video card out of died a horrible death. I built a make shift replacement that has
difficulty running for more than a day or so before locking up. I may have finally found the problem
(oddly enough a bad KVM switch - who knew?). I'm slightly hopeful that the issue has been fixed. On to
good news: I have the file database updated, and have completed the new "FILES" section. It has been
updated to show all of the working levels of OS for an application, not just the minimum, like before.
This should help you find more titles from the site. I haven't tested the site much, so if you find any
trouble, please e-mail me. Now that I have finished the database, I can go back to what I like to do:
find and test new applications to add to the site. In fact I've already located some awesome new games
that I'm going to be testing right away. Some personal favorites come to the PPC. Fallout and Quake 3.
I'll actually take time out from my Fallout 3 playing to test Fallout on the PPC. -Chris

Down but not out. |

Well if anyone tried to hit the site in the past few days, sorry for the inconvience. I tripped over a
cord in my computer room and didn't realize I had actually pulled the video card right out of the system
board of the web server. Needless to say it didn't want to run after that. I pieced it back together
and its good to go again. On another note, it is sad to say I haven't heard a word from my friend that
was working on the forums pages, so it looks like that might not become a reality. I can still go with
one of the excellent free php forums available, but I was hoping to offer something nobody else already
had. I still pick away at the database, and will update the files pages when it is done. I will then
start adding new files to the database at that time too. Don't forget, there is a 'Direct-2-Device' files
page that you can access right from your PDA. Just connect to the LegacyHandhelds main page with your
PDA and you will be re-directed right away. Happy Holidays to all. -Chris

I'm still here...and changes are still coming. |

For the few of you still visit from time to time, honestyly I still continue to work on new things for
the web site. I am in the process of re-building the entire database to accomidate for the new files pages.
Those pages are complete and working, I am just swamped updating all of the database by hand. Once that
is done, I will be adding new files again, and I think I'll move the site to a real web server for faster
downloads, a working forums section and other goodies. Thanks again for the few of you out there that
still stop by. Be sure to keep checking back from time to time, the changes are still coming.

Big changes are coming. |

I have enlisted the help of a friend in the efforts of updating a lot of the site. The entire files site
is being re-written to make it possible for you to search for software that is compatible with your devices
O/S level, not just what the software's minimum O/S requires. This should allow everyone the ability
to find more compatible software without so much hassle. I will be updating all 200+ applications that
are already on the site, and won't be adding anything new until that is done. The custom forums pages are
currently in their alpha phase of testing, and I'm hoping to implement them on our site as a beta test as
soon as the author gives me the go ahead. I think this will make the site a much more useful tool for
everyone. I have been shopping for a hosting site, and once these new pieces have been implemented I will
be moving the site. This will allow for a HUGE difference in download speeds, and hopefully an all around
better experience for everyone. I appreciate all the visits I have gotten over the past year, with out
your stopping; I would have lost interest in this ages ago. I have plenty of other ideas in the works, but
I need to get these things done before I move in too many other directions.

The mobile pages are up! |

We have some good news. The mobile pages are up and running! I have reviews, links and "Direct-2-Device"
downloads all setup and working. Your PDA should redirect to the pages as soon as you connect to the
Legacy Handhelds` web site. I have a limited amount of downloads for this feature, but I'm adding them
so keep checking back. Other than that, there is not too much new to share. Thanks for stopping.

Happy New Year! |
|
Wednesday,
January 2, 2007 |
Its a new year, and the site is still up and running. I have been slowly adding new files to our file
site, and we have passed the 200 mark. I'm quite happy with that since I'm the only person adding files
and I try to test each one before I add them. The site has some nice pieces of software that are
difficult to find other places, like the spv Duke Nukem 3-D, and Quake 2 ports. I'm also in the process
of testing Shadow Warrior and Quake III ports as well.
I have been working on the pages, I'm building
pages specifically for viewing on your PDA. All are complete with the exception of the Direct-2-Device
downloads page. When that has been completed, I will be unlocking those pages to the public. I'm
going to be updating the file site to show the O/S levels that will work for an application, not just the
minimum required to run it. This will take a re-write of the database, so this is down the road a ways.
Finally, I still hope to host the site else where and unlock the forums pages as well. Those are my
New Year's resolutions for the site. I hope the New Year finds you all well and happy. Take care.

Yes, we're still here. |

Sadly we were down for almost a month. I had some issues with the server and my ISP. As usual, this is
just another reason why I need to have this site hosted instead of running it out of my house on a server
built from spare parts. As the weather gets colder here, it is keeping me inside more, so hopefully I
should be updating the site and the files more often. Aside from that, there is nothing else exciting at
this time. I will consider the hosting thing after the holidays. It would appear that the battery has
passed away on my Palm IIIc, so the files I was testing for the Palm side of the site are going to have
to wait until I can find a suitable replacement unit. With any luck I'll find something a bit more
current. Take care and Good Health.

Mother Nature Attacks! |
|
Tuesday,
September 25, 2007 |
Well the site is finally back up and running. It would appear that redundant Surge Protectors aren't
sufficient when it comes to a lightning strike. At any rate things are back up, and I've got some
new goodies to add to the file site. One worth noting is a freeware port of the Ultima 7 enhanced
re-write Exult. It will run on ARM PPCs with Windows Mobile 2003 or better. There isn't too much
more to tell, but this is more proof that I need to get this site on a real server for hosting.

Looking to host this thing. |

I must admit I have been moving a little slow on things here lately. The weather is beautiful here, and
I have been getting things done outside while its nice. I am currently looking into having the site
hosted, so that I can open up the forums, and increase the download speeds to something more acceptable.
I hope to have made the transition by the 1st of November, but nothing is etched in stone at this time.
I recently did a review on nOp's DOSBox application; if you have a moment, check it out. The software is
a must have for anyone who was a computer user in the days before Windows. I hope everyone is enjoying
their summers. Take care -Chris
